Reaching the sea from the desert
The desert slopes into the Sea of Cortés at such a shallow angle that tides can run two miles out. We had dropped a lot of food ballast to make the last crossing, so we ate what we found once we reached the tidal zone. Walking out a mile in calf-deep water, these are the clams I found with my feet. We feasted.
